TB preventive treatment (‎TPT)‎ is essential toreduce the incidence of TB disease amonghighrisk individuals. TPT is a critical publichealth intervention to eliminate TB disease inthe WHO South-East Asia Region. In September2018, at the first-ever United Nations High-Level Meeting on TB, Heads of State fromacross the world pledged to provide TPT to atleast 30 million people at risk of the diseaseglobally between 2018 and 2022. At theregional level, this translates to delivering TPTto at least 10.8 million high-risk individuals. In 2020, the WHO Regional Office for South-East Asia conducted a situational analysis toassess the progress made in the adoption andimplementation of latest TPT policies by MemberStates of the Region. This report contains thedetails of this situational analysis. The analysissuggests that despite considerable progressthe achievements in TPT coverage among highriskgroups are below the desired levels. At thecurrent pace of scale-up)‎ the Region is unlikelyto achieve the regional TPT targets by 2022.Focused attention and coordinated action areneeded from all stakeholders to achieve rapidscale-up of TPT services in the South-East AsiaRegion.
